CBG – Is this the next big thing?

You hear about CBD products almost everywhere – on social media, on interviews, articles and ads. It has infiltrated the wellness sphere because of how impactful it really is. CBD Oil in all its forms may be in high demand today, but CBG is catching on fast! Here are a few reasons why it could become the next big thing.

What is CBG?

CBG is short for Cannabigerol and much like CBD it is also found in hemp, a cannabis plant like marijuana. Over the last few years, CBD has taken centre stage, but not anymore. CBG has a lot of potential and it’s finally starting to get the attention it deserves. Although, there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding CBG, there’s a lot we do know such as the fact that CBG is called the ‘mother of all cannabinoids’ because “two plant enzymes convert CBG to THC or CBD”. CBG is structurally similar to THC and CBD and its behaviour is some place between CBD and THC, however, it does not get you high as THC does. This could be due to the fact that it does not bind to the cannabinoid receptors like THC does and works like CBD instead, independent of that interaction for its effect.

What are the benefits of CBG?

The potential uses of CBG are mainly anti-inflammatory. It may help in treating Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis and maybe even IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It also could help in treating Glaucoma, the potentially blinding eye disease and may have some anti-bacterial properties as well. The prescence of CBG may also help counteract the paranoia one may feel while consuming THC and therefore help them continue using THC for medical reasons.

As of now, CBG seems to be safe and non-toxic. It reportedly binds to a non-cannabinoid receptor in the brain that could reduce blood pressure. However, its best to consult a Doctor before using CBG as it may interact with common medications.
